Local Original Music

Different bands, instruments, music genres, and people are featured every week. You can follow us on socials or check out the Event Calendar to see who plays next. The Indiana artists featured play original music that you probably haven’t heard before!

There has been a lot of interest from local artists wanting to play this series. Why? Because it gives artists a chance to share their music with a new and diverse audience. And, it’s a great way to connect with the community.

We have gotten feedback from the individuals and bands who have played that they love this opportunity because, at many gigs, they often play covers. But this opportunity lets artists share their own creative visions, perform original tunes, share their musical art, and interact with an intimate audience of interested listeners.

CHECK OUT THESE GREAT ARTISTS WHO PERFORMED IN May!

Space Captian Rik

Space Captain Rik is an improvisational guitarist who takes audiences on a journey that transcends time and space! He came from Southern Indiana to play at the first May Circle Centre Series concert. How does Space Captain Rik get so many unique sounds out of his guitar? It’s a question many who listened in are left asking but it’s certainly a memorable experience to hear. His music is relaxing but also mesmerizing and does make you feel like you’re floating through space. Each performance is unique and his songs are never repeated the same way. Space Captain Rik is technically proficient and very creative in his music. He describes it as the art of “Zen Guitar” playing. Check out these clips and photos from his performance!

Melissa Gallant

Melissa is a solo artist from Indianapolis who plays the harp. She thinks it’s a little ironic that her last name is Gallant… hence, she calls her website Gallant Harp. Melissa performs on a hand-carved Lyon and Healy concert grand harp but at this concert, she brought her pink harp! This harp is a little smaller and she had set up to share some amazing sounds! Her unique performance style allows for an extreme connection between herself, her music, and the audience. Because the harp is an instrument many people have not seen up close, it is common for listeners to have questions and, as a music educator she does a wonderful job at fielding those. This performance was truly unique and so relaxing to listen to as well. Here are some clips and photos from her performance!

Jess Jones

If you’ve been around the Indianapolis singer-songwriter music scene, you have probably heard of or seen Jess Jones perform. Just as described in his promo, “Jess is an Americana Singer/songwriter who writes about hard times and life. Described lyrically as writing “Raw Humanity “ Always playing from the heart and searching for soul.” He is the kind of musician who is always coming up with new music, new collaborations, and hustling to get his tunes into the world! Jess Jones has a warm and approachable delivery. He even had written out song lyrics to give away… a true artist. We were happy to have him be part of the Circle Centre Series.

Tilt-A-Squirrel

This very talented group has a small local following and it was great hearing them play at our free Tuesday music series. Maybe this band looks like a bunch of “old white dudes”, but they know how to bring energy to their performance and have fun! These guys are all accomplished musicians and got together to form this party band with a clever name. They are perfecting and continuing their music and contributing to the local scene. You can catch them playing throughout Indianapolis at various bars and restaurants or even hire them for your party! With three songwriters in the group, they played a variety of music ranging from folk to Americana to prog rock to humor to tango.

Gary Wasson & Greg Ziesemer

These two singer-songwriters are some of the most talented in our city. Both have played with several bands including a very popular local band in the 90s called Sindicado and also The Smudpuppies. Gary regularly hosts an open mic and Greg runs the Earth Day Festival. Both are extremely active in the Central Indiana music scene and are mentors who encourage other musicians and teach songwriting. You may also want to check out Gary’s cosmic country band, The Auburns. It was such a treat to have these guys play a duo performance singing their all original music together. Very kind people and so much amazing talent to share!

There are even more great artists coming up in June, so stay tuned and please join us!

We would love to see you there.

Reminder:

FREE live local music at the Circle Centre Mall every Tuesday from 5-7pm!
