Brando

Bio from their site trimmed down. The band was originally formed in 1991 in the basement of some house on South Walnut Street in Bloomington, IN. In 1993 the core of band became Derek Richey (vocals and guitar), Nathan Bryant (guitar) and Dan Solero (percussion) and whatever bassist happened to live nearby (they went through for or five of them). Soon, Derek Richey began collaborating with more and more people on writing new songs, and Josh Seib settled in as the band's first long-time bassist (and then, guitarist). The band kept playing live up until 1997. Members included Pat Spurgeon (former drummer of Steve Kowalski, and now with Sub Pop), Chris Kupersmith (Uvula), Kester Clarke, Aaron Smith, and Jeb Banner. In 1997 the live act ceased to be, but the recording relationship between Seib and Richey blossomed and account for a good portion of the recordings presented on what would come to be the 2000 compilation release, 'The Adder' on Smokeylung.. 'Peacocks on Linen' that was also released on Smokeylung in mid 2000. 'The Headless Horseman is a Preacher' released in 2001, however, changed everything for the band. It was this release that garnered them more radio play, and the kind of attention that turns heads. After years apart, it was time to put the live band back together. This time around the live act saw the additions of Jorma Whittaker (Marmoset), Kenny Childers (Mysteries of Life) and Daniel Touw on drums (for the still distant Dan Solero). Later after Jorma Whittaker moved to NYC Josh Bennett filled in on bass, and Tony Whitlock would fill in for the departing Josh Seib, who moved to Chicago to restart his own band, Satelitte 66. The next album, 'Single Crown Postcard', was released in 2002 on recordhead / mr. whiggs records. 2004?s ?943 Recluse? features Richey collaborating with Kenny Childers as well as Whitlock and Touw on a a number of songs. brando (active): Derek Richey: vocalist, many instruments. Kenny Childers: guitars, vocals. Daniel Touw: Drums. Tony Whitlock: Guitars. Josh Bennett: Bass.
